Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

His defensive approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He defended 4 early break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
